President Joe Biden, a Democrat, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, met on October 5 to assess the devastation from Hurricane Ian. As reported by Reuters, the two put their political differences aside and stressed the need for a united federal and state effort for the lengthy recovery ahead.
"Mr. President, welcome to Florida. We appreciate working together across various levels of government," DeSantis told Biden during remarks after the tour.
"We're in this together," said Biden, and complimented the "good job" the governor had done. "We’ve worked hand-in-glove. We have very different political philosophies."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by Hurricane Ian. We at Let's Be Purple are working toward the day where it doesn't take a tragedy for people of different political ideologies to work together.
