Majorities of both parties in both the House and Senate voted to pass a stopgap funding bill averting a government shutdown and punting a spending fight in Congress until early next year. President Biden is expected to sign the measure. The bill extends appropriations dealing with veterans programs, transportation, housing, agriculture and energy until Jan. 19. Funding for other appropriations bills will be extended until Feb. 2.
In the House, 209 Democrats and 127 Republicans voted for the bill. In the Senate 47 Democrats and 37 Republicans (along with 3 independents) voted for the bill.
