It turns out, wanting your elected representatives to be purple is, well, purple. According to a recent YouGov poll, a majority of people across party lines want their elected representatives to work in a bipartisan way and be willing to compromise with others. 60% of Americans agree including 71% of Democrats, 52% of Republicans, and 57% of Independents. Among those with a preference, were 74% of Americans agree including 80% of Democrats, 60% of Republicans, and 77% of Independents (as a fairly high percentage of those surveyed responded "not sure"). A similar of respondents also said they respect politicians more when they attempt to get bipartisan support.
We recently rated U.S. Senators and Representatives on how purple they are - that is, how well they work toward bipartisanship. Please see this link for the ratings of U.S Senators and this link for the ratings of U.S. Representatives.
