President Biden announced that at the U.S. border with Mexico, people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who cross the border from Mexico illegally will be turned away. Instead, the U.S. will accept a total of 30 thousand people from these countries per month if they come legally, have sponsors, and pass background checks. A majority a Democrats (70%) and independents (65%) approve of this policy change as well as a near majority (49%) of Republicans, according to a recent Quinnipiac University poll. More Republicans approve than disapprove (46%), with the balance not sure. Based on this support, we rate this as lavender.
